An American girl, Seberg, living in Paris, discovers that the city of love and romance does not always live up to its billing as she becomes friends with a group of people who first offer her closeness, then sourly reject her. She starts a brief affair with racing driver Ronet, discovering facets of his personality that his old lover, the suicidal Presle, did not understand. This growing attachment to Ronet takes Seberg further away from her new friend Presle. Seberg is eventually dumped by her lover, Ronet, who then returns to the arms of Presle.
