This Marriage Business Reviews

Moore, cast in a comedy beneath his talents, plays a marriage-license clerk in a small town. In over 20 years not one of his happy couplings has ever ended in divorce, a fact seized upon by journalist Lane. Lane's publicity results in a slew of matrimonial-minded couples to his office. Lane then promotes Moore for the mayor's office under the nickname "Lucky License." The opposition tries to frame him with scantily clad girls and the like and goes as far as to jail him for murder, but all turns out well in the end. The players and direction are fine, but the story is weak. Lester, who played Moore's daughter and Lane's sweetie, took her professional name from Janet Gaynor's character in A STAR IS BORN.
