The Steel Claw Reviews

THE STEEL CLAW was the first of four films shot in the Philippines in which rugged Hollywood star George Montgomery served as writer, director, producer, and actor. This time out he plays Capt. John Larsen of the USMC, a fighter tried and true who is stationed in Manila during WW II and about to be discharged after losing a hand in an accident. Undaunted, he has himself fitted for a "steel claw" and, with a guerrilla squad of Filipinos, sets out on a suicide mission inside Japanese lines to rescue Gen. Frank Powers (Paul Sorenson). After a show of bravery and derring-do, Larsen frees Powers only to learn that the man he saved is a cowardly impostor who assumed the dead general's identity in order to receive special treatment from his captors.
