An old Cossack chief (Harry Baur) has problems with his sons (Roger Livesey, Anthony Bushell). Patricia Roc. Uneven version of "Taras Bulba." Some scenes are quite lavish.

A father-and-son rivalry, set in the 16th century, is the premise for this failed spectacle. Baur is a Cossack leader whose attack on Poland causes his son to come to that victimized country's aid. The war rages and both Baur and his rebel son, Bushell, rank among the casualties. An English-language version of the 1936 French picture TARASS BOULBA, based on Gogol's tale.
