When Howard Spurlock (Alfred Lunt) is falsely accused of theft, he escape to China to avoid prosecution and to save his family from the shame. The despondent Howard begins to drink heavily before he meets Ruth Endicott (Mimi Palmeri), the daughter of a missionary. She helps him to dry out and a kindly doctor (Wallace Erskine) gets Howard a job in the South Seas. Howard refuses to marry Ruth out of his shame for his alleged crime, believing a union would besmirch her good name. The Spurlock family hires a detective to search for Howard. When he is officially cleared of any wrongdoing and the charges are dropped, he proposes to Ruth in this romantic South Sea drama.
