Lovely Anne Page is the object of affection of three suitors, Caius, whom her mother favors; Slender, whom her father favors; and Fenton, whom Anne favors. Mr. Page and Mrs. Page plot to have their favored suitor win their daughter's hand, but in the midst of all this comes merry Falstaff.

A German version of Shakespeare's play and Nicolai's opera that tells the familiar tale of the drinking and womanizing Falstaff, who becomes the victim of two of Windsor's merry wives. The Berlin State Opera provides the music, with the dubbed-in voices of German singers Rita Streich, Martha Modl, Hans Kramer, and Helmut Krebs. (In German; English subtitles.)
