This edition of the March of Time series follows the format of the others. It presents a selection of Time newsreels that document the events of World War II, from the days preceding U.S. involvement, to the eventual dropping of the atomic bomb. Each tape is loosely unified under a single theme. In this particular volume, the early days of America's war are chronicled, with special emphasis on naval operations. Topics discussed include the use of airplanes in war, Japan's effort to control Guam, the expansion of the U.S. Navy, the key role of the Panama Canal, and the transition made by the U.S. to a wartime economy. Contemporary with the times they document, these videos are invaluable original source documents and as such are appropriate for presentation in the classroom as long as their depictions of events are considered with a pinch of salt.
