The first volume in The March of Time video series about the Great Depression, March of Time: The Great Depression - Time Marches In features an array of 1935 archival newsreel footage that won a special Academy Award in 1936, and features the world during the Great Depression. This program includes rarely seen footage of Japan's Prince Kimmochi Sainoji, during his struggle to maintain control over his country's national policy; stories about the Metropolitan Opera and populist Louisiana governor Huey Long; and priceless performance clips of blues legend Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter. Gleaned from nearly two decades of newsreels produced by Time Magazine during the years 1935-1951, the monumental The March of Time videotape series features the pictorial journalism that informed, educated, and entertained millions of Americans for over a decade, and won two Academy Awards as well. The newsreels from which this series was created were produced by Louis de Rochemont and narrated by Westbrook Van Voorhis, who was for many Americans of the time "the voice of the news."
