American romantic drama film revolving around bittersweet relationship between a middle-aged couple. Iris King is a widow still grieving after the loss of her husband. She works hard at a baking factory in Connecticut and lives in a high-crime area. She lives from paycheck to paycheck as she raises two children. Stanley Cox is a cook in the bakery's lunchroom cafeteria. Iris soon realizes that Stanley is illiterate, and begins giving Stanley basic reading lessons.
