The inhabitants of a small, remote island have been practicing voodoo rites and worshipping an evil priest named Damballah for years, but the local law officials generally turn a blind eye to this death cult's bizarre activities. Captain Labesch arrives from the mainland, determined to crack down on the island's lawlessness and clean up the ineffectual, hard-drinking police force.

One of Karloff's final four films, partly shot in Mexico. Karloff's scenes were filmed in Los Angeles, back-to-back with his scenes from the other three films, all made by the same company during a five-week stretch. Karloff plays a wealthy landowner who is shocked by the disappearance of his niece, Julissa. She and several other natives of Coaibai Island have become victims of a strange voodoo ritual involving snake poison and sacrifices. Police captain Bertrand investigates and learns that Karloff is the tribal leader, then destroys him and the ritual site with a charge of dynamite. A bad film, even for Karloff fans.
