Shoot Out at Big Sag Reviews

Brennan is a self-appointed clergyman who wants the Big Sag area of Montana for himself and family. He tries to run newly arrived Texans Erickson and son Robinson off the land so he can have it for his own. Gregg, knowing her husband is a coward who will never follow through with his plan, sends her daughter, Patten, off to town with a note for Tremayne, owner of the First and Last Chance Saloon. En route Patten is delayed by a storm and meets Robinson. The two young people fall in love, but Patten continues to carry out her mother's orders. She delivers the note, and Tremayne makes a pass at her. Ford, Tremayne's alcoholic wife, foils the seduction by shooting her husband dead. It turns out Tremayne also had hired a killer (O'Kelly), who is shot by Brennan. The preacher performs the marriage ceremony for his daughter and former rival's son, then vows never again to pick up a gun. This production was produced by Brennan's son and copyrighted under the title "Barb Wire (The Rawhide Halo)." It was to be the pilot episode for a television series called "Barbed Wire," which was never produced. SHOOT OUT AT BIG SAG stayed on the shelf for two years before it finally was given a minor theatrical release in 1962.
