In the Troma tradition, this U.S.-Japanese coproduction is meretricious schlock posing as a lusty parody of meretricious schlock. NYPD captain Dick Bender (Noble Lee Lester) assigns Sgt. Harry Griswold (Rick Gianasi) to investigate the brutal slaying of a famous Japanese Kabuki actor. Bender questions Griswold's skill, but Griswold tries to make up in tenacity and hard work what he lacks in finesse. Through a bizarre accident during his hunt for the killer, Griswold is transformed into Sergeant Kabukiman, a Japanese hero possessing magical powers. As Kabukiman, Griswold wields a strange array of weapons against local criminals, including projectile parasols, suffocating sushi rolls, fatal flying footwear, and lethal chopsticks. Lotus (Susan Byun), a young Japanese woman, volunteers to train Kabukiman so that he can properly fight against Reginald Stuart (Bill Weeden), a wealthy industrialist who plots to take over the city with a fearsome crime wave. Buffoonery, bullets and bosoms abound. Recommended for frat boys only.
