Protocol Reviews

Sunny (Goldie Hawn) is a Washington, DC, cocktail waitress who thwarts an attempt on the life of oil-rich Emir (Richard Romanus). She becomes a media star, and her endearing manner leads the administration to offer her a post as a protocol officer. Once on the job, she finds herself in a number of ticklish situations as she finds she is totally out of place in the world of diplomacy. Clearly the inspiration here was MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON, complete with a stirringly patriotic speech by Hawn near the film's end, but this effort comes nowhere near capturing the spirit of that Frank Capra classic. Hawn has the right screen persona to carry it off, but her character is lost in a barrage of weak comic moments and absurd action.
