Prisoners was released as a part-talking, part-silent feature. An Austrian showgirl working in a cabaret moonlights as a thief. When she is caught in the act, a young lawyer offers to defend her. Unfortunately, he loses the case, causing her to spend several months in jail. Fortunately, the two have fallen in love, and he promises to wait for her.

Griffith is an Austrian showgirl in Lugosi's cabaret who makes a living by stealing on the side. She's caught and enlists the aid of Keith to defend her. He isn't much of a lawyer, however, and she is sentenced to a few months in the slammer. He does win her heart and promises to wait for her. Barely a talkie, PRISONERS has a few sound effects and only a minimum of dialog toward the end. Of interest mainly to Lugosi fans.
