Rather than meeting his destiny in the person of Jack McCall, Columbia Pictures' version of the Deadwood shootout ends with victory for Wild Bill Hickock. And that is just as it should be in a William Elliott western that co-stars Arthur Loft as a megalomaniac town ruler. Loft makes his stock character more interesting than you would expect and there is good support from the likes of former boxer Jack Rober as his chief henchman Rawhide and the always welcome Claire Rochelle as the inevitable saloon dame with a heart of gold. As for Dub Taylor's comedy antics, well, they remain strictly a matter of taste.
