Manon Reviews

A film made during the "Tradition of Quality" period in France popular after WW II. The story opens with a flashback of Aubry being condemned by the local villagers for her affair with Resistance fighter Auclair. They escape to Paris and take refuge with her brother, who takes advantage of the girl by forcing her to become a prostitute. The young pair attempts an escape again, this time to Israel, but is attacked by a group of Arabs while tracking across the desert. In a sappy finish, the boy buries the girl he tried to save.
