This was Republic's attempt to come out with a series of musicals similar to Paramount's successful "Big Broadcast" series, but there is little comparison. The thin story has agent Regan trying to sell a new singing sensation, Langford, to spite a rich society girl, Henry. Regan first introduced Henry to radio, and having become a success, she has abandoned him. The search for talent and the radio broadcasts allow the various acts to do their thing. Songs include "Sweet Heartache" (Ned Washington, Sammy Stept), "Hail Alma Mater" (Stept), "Last Night I Dreamed of You," "You'd Like It," "I'll Reach for a Star," "The Lady Wants to Dance," "Was It Rain," "Love Is Good for Anything That Ails You" (Lou Handman, Walter Hirsch), "I've Got to Be a Rug Cutter" (Duke Ellington), "Jungle Rhythm." Sequels followed in 1940, 1943, 1947, and 1950.
