Gian Maria Volonte plays the title role in Giordano Bruno. For those not familiar with Italian history, Bruno was a 16th-century monk who gained fame as a noted philosopher. This he achieved at a great price, when he was condemned for allegedly causing a schism in the Church, and he was ordered to forsake his vows. Volonte perfectly captures the inner turmoil which drove Giordano Bruno to lose his soul but regain his intellectual independence.Charlotte Rampling co-stars as Fosca, the woman behind the man. Among the many pleasures of Giordano Bruno is the symphonic musical score by Ennio Morricone.
