East of Sudan Reviews

This British adventure picture set in India during the 1880s tells of the efforts of the English to stamp out the slave trade against the Sudanese Moslems. When the Batash outpost is overrun, trooper Quayle and rookie lieutenant Fowlds help pretty governess Syms and her charge Agutter to gain safety. Along the way the two soldiers are constantly at each other's throats, with the experienced Quayle becoming increasingly frustrated by the actions of his naive superior. After battling wild animals, tricky terrain, and Moslems, the two develop a grudging respect for each other. Quayle, of course, falls for Syms, and all turns out well when the team blows up an arsenal and saves a rag-tag group of British soldiers from certain death. Stock footage of the battle scenes from THE FOUR FEATHERS (1939) was used in the making of this film.
