Not to be confused with Tony Au's 1986 masterful opus Dream Lovers, the unfortunately named Bosco Lam Hing-lung spins this romantic melodrama. Drag racing enthusiast and amateur inventor Shing (Tony Leung Kar-Fai) immediately falls in love with the wealthy, beautiful Kitty (Jacqueline Wu Chien-lien). Though the two have clear chemistry, Kitty is forced to leave Hong Kong when her father lands in hot water with his creditors. Later, one of Shing's inventions gets bought by Japanese investors for ten million dollars. Yet without his true love, Shing is unhappy in his new wealth. At a hoity-toity cocktail party, Shing learns that not only is Kitty now married, but also her husband, seedy business man Kwok Ping-tak (played by Hou Hsiao-Hsien veteran Jack Kao), is trying to fleece Shing of his newfound riches. Actress Sharla Cheung Man produced this film and had a major clash with star Tony Leung Kar-fai, accusing him of ruining the film. Cheung turned around and remade the film, cast herself and named the work Romantic Dream. As luck would have it, both films hit the theaters in the same month.
