Cowboy Roundup Reviews

With this film Jones began producing his own westerns, which he had already been scripting and starring in for some time. This innocuous feature plays havoc with suspension of disbelief but it is an enjoyable little romp nonetheless. Jones plays a modern cowpoke who's mystified by automobiles. He gives up his beloved horse, Silver, for a racing car. Walters is the daughter of a racing promoter who will be forced to marry the evil Kirke if her father loses a big race. Kirke does all the bad guy tricks you've ever seen: paying off the other driver, sabotage, and so on. Of course, Jones comes to the comical climactic rescue, winning both the race and Walters' heart. It's all fairly silly, but directed with a lively style and some surprisingly creative camerawork.
