Cheerleader Massacre Reviews

Reviewed By: Jeremy Wheeler

One day, Roger Corman will stop letting his old compadre Jim Wynorski use clips of the original Slumber Party Massacre in his films -- but until then, we're cursed with dreck like Cheerleader Massacre! It seems director Wynorski can't get enough out of ripping off the classic original feminist driller-killer flick, since he's already directed two stinkers that have used Rita Mae Brown's Slumber Party Massacre film clips in one way or another (Sorority House Massacre 2 and Hard to Die). Those wondering where the connection comes from this time, look no further than ex-starlet Brinke Stevens... In only cameo-form, Stevens reprises her role from the original, except this time, it's the old footage is edited so that she doesn't die, but ends up hiding and eventually escaping. It's a cheap gimmick and terrible excuse for using the name and footage. If anything, it makes this shot on video clunker pale in comparison to the similarly low budget, but shot on film 1982 film. On a good note for these films, the ladies look good and their acting skills sure are somethin' (wait until you see them grieving for their cut up friends... it's pure gold!). Keep the eagle eye open too for the shots lifted from Corman's equally ripped-off Humanoids from the Deep (which is pretty much when anything explodes). In the end, Cheerleader Massacre is simply a lame stab (no pun intended) at the slasher genre, with little to no gore and a script that must've been written on a Fruit Roll-Up. Rah Rah Shish Boom BLAH!
