Buddies Reviews

BUDDIES is like one of those old-fashioned westerns where the male bonding triumphs over any woes that might befall the heroes. Set in remote Queensland, the film depicts two close friends scratching out a living mining diamonds with another male miner and one woman. A villain arrives (we used to call them claim-jumpers in Gabby Hayes' day), and the conflict begins. There are superb characters in this film. Just when you think they are the cliches we've come to expect, they take a 180-degree turn and become totally different. Lots of comedy, action, fine location photography, superior stunts, and a happy ending. It's not THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE, but it's a lot better than many Burt Reynolds films.
