Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son Reviews

Reviewed By: Perry Seibert

The title Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son probably doesn't need to be that long, and the movie itself certainly doesn't need to be.Martin Lawrence returns as Malcolm Turner, an FBI agent who also happens to be a master of disguise -- as long as the disguise is putting on a fat suit and pretending to be a woman. When a flash drive containing evidence that will put away a Russian gangster ends up at a women-only arts college, Malcolm dons the Big Momma persona again, this time bringing his stepson, Trent (Brandon T. Jackson) -- an aspiring rapper -- into the act as his niece because Trent saw the bad guy murder someone. Big Momma gets a job as a den mother at the school, Trent falls in love with one of the students (who of course doesn't know he's really a guy), and the two have to figure out where the flash drive is stashed before the Russian finds it first. We are informed at the beginning of Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son that this is "A John Whitesell Film." If you're unsure what that means at the start, you probably won't have any better of an idea at the end because the film's pretty much nothing more than a series of tired gags that have been exhausted by Eddie Murphy, Tyler Perry, and Lawrence himself in previous movies. Of course, innovation is not why someone would go see the third film in the Big Momma series, but it's hard to determine exactly why anyone would go see this outside of Martin Lawrence completists, and those too impatient to wait for the next Madea flick.
