Andre the Butcher Reviews

Reviewed By: Jeremy Wheeler

Somehow Andre the Butcher got it right -- after years of atrocious low-budget horror comedies, a serial killer flick with, of all people, Ron Jeremy in the title role, manages to pack in just as many belly laughs as it does gory punches. More akin to the kind of mid-'80s horror fare than any of its straight-to-DVD peers, the flick is full of the kind of priceless dialogue spouted from one absurd character after another that made those oldies-but-goodies classics in their own right. The plot isn't really what makes this sucker that special, though credit should go out to the screenwriters for creating the best "who's gonna die?" scenario in quite a while. Ron Jeremy himself isn't at all the ham that one would expect in the role, with much of his character's humor stemming from gruesome sight gags that continually haunt his ghoulish villain. As usual for the genre, there's a good portion of skin on display, though who knew that the best thing about the lesbian sex scene wouldn't be the steamy scene itself, but the ridiculous double entendres that lead up to it? With a populace of crazy characters that never stop delivering the funny goods and a finale that involves holy water piss of all things, Andre the Butcher is the feel good low budget slasher of the new millennium for crazy fans of outlandish horror!
