Air Raid Wardens Reviews

Laurel & Hardy are miserable failures in every business they attempt, from selling fertilizer to running a pet shop. They close up shop and try to enlist, doing their bit for the war effort, but all the services decline their assistance. The boys become air raid wardens but are constantly being pressured to resign by Freeman and his snooty wife Walker; during a practice air raid, the boys apply first aid to imaginary wounds on leading citizens whom they have strapped to boards in order to make them more cooperative, this being one of several hilarious scenes. Kennedy is uncooperative when L&H visit his home, refusing to observe the blackout by turning off his lights. The boys jump him in a patriotic donnybrook that leaves them all unconscious, having knocked one another senseless with beer bottles. When found, L&H are dismissed from the service for drunkenness. They redeem themselves later when they overhear a plot by Meek and O'Neill to sabotage the local magnesium plant and then round up the would-be saboteurs in a wild melee of slapstick action. Not one of L&H's better efforts, but it does have its moments.
