Set in the 1940s, the first season of Agent Carter picks up following the events of Captain America: The First Avenger. It follows the adventures of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).

The second season of Agent Carter continues the MCU's 1940s adventures, providing the final look at that era of the universe.

The first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. picks up in the aftermath of Marvel's The Avengers and Iron Man 3. It's revealed that Agent Coulson did not die in Avengers as believed. Following the events of Captain America: Winter Soldier, Hydra becomes a major force in the show in Episode 16.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 picks up where the first left off, with Coulson and his team trying to rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D. and defeat Hydra. The first 19 episodes are set before the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Though set after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Daredevil positions itself behind Marvel's The Avengers. The first season makes mention of the "New York incident," alluding to the Chitauri invasion that first gathered the movie superheroes.

The final three episodes of Season 2 follow the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, in which Agent Coulson assisted Nick Fury off-screen. The episodes also introduce the Inhumans, who play a major role in Season 3.

Jessica Jones follows not too far behind the events of Daredevil Season 1, with one character appearing on both shows. While this show is set after the events of Age of Ultron, the attack on Sokovia doesn't mean much to its plot.

Season 3 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. picks up not long after the events of Season 2. Not much in the MCU has changed, and the series is kept separate from Marvel's Netflix shows.

A short time after Season 1, Daredevil returns and changes the MCU in a major way, thanks to the introduction of the Punisher. Though the film is set after the events of Age of Ultron, the movie has no impact on the series.

With the continuation of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., nothing in this show's brand of the MCU has changed. This is largely thanks to the Netflix shows being kept separate from the broadcast TV programs.

After being introduced in Jessica Jones Season 1, Luke Cage gets his own series. Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple becomes a main character in this series after appearing in both Daredevil and Jessica Jones. She's a thread holding this piece of the universe together.

It's important that Season 4 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. follows Doctor Strange, which introduced mysticism into the MCU. This season is influenced by the events of both Agent Carter and Captain America: Civil War.

As with the rest of Marvel's Netflix shows, there isn't much overlap with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. However, this is the final show leading into the Defenders limited series.

These final episodes of Season 4 stand out because they are partially set in a "What If..." universe, which was a virtual reality simulation.

Defenders is the culmination of Netflix's Marvel shows, with Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fist and Luke Cage joining forces. It's essentially a street-level Avengers adventure. While it forwards the stories being told on the Netflix shows, its impact ends there.

The Inhumans race was first introduced in Season 2 of S.H.I.E.L.D. This series follows the royal family after their arrival on Earth.

After first debuting in Daredevil Season 2, Frank Castle spun off into his own series set after both Marvel's Inhumans and Thor: Ragnarok. In terms of the Netflix shows, this is the streaming service's first follow-up to Defenders.

While Hulu's Runaways doesn't seem to have much of a connection to the rest of the MCU at this point, it does exist in the same timeline. In fact, an MCU tie-in comic for Doctor Strange includes Tina Minoru, a character from the series.

The fifth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is divided into two individual storylines. The first half sent most of the team deep into space. Unfortunately, that didn't lead to them crossing paths with Thor or the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The second half of Season 5 is built in a way that could end the season or the series. In its 100th episode, original characters Leo Fitz and Gemma Simmons married. This piece of the season is set after the events of Black Panther, but this doesn't impact the show.

After the events of Defenders, the second season of Jessica Jones finds the vigilante coping with becoming a well-known hero in New York City. Though this season is set after The Punisher, there isn't much overlap between the two.

While it's not completely clear where they will land in the MCU timeline, Netflix's Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will all get another season. Additionally, both Marvel's Cloak & Dagger and Marvel's New Warriors will take the universe in new directions.
