1. Simply stunning

Known for making serious statements on the stage and on the red carpet, Kesha and Nicki Minaj both arrived at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards looking more chic than shocking. They really turned up the volume on their glamour!

2. A kinky show

Rihanna found a hit in her single, "S&M," which some say may have originally been written for Britney Spears. Luckily for all of us, Rihanna welcomed Pop Queen Britney on the Billboard Music Awards stage in 2011 to perform the sexy jam. The results were spectacular.

3. Taylor Swift sweeps

In 2013, Taylor Swift took home a whopping eight awards for her stellar album 22. This year, she's up for a 14 awards for 1989 and we're guessing she'll grab more than a few. Her video for "Bad Blood" will also premiere during the show, and it totes a stellar cast including Kendrick Lamar, Lena Dunham, Jessica Alba and so many others.

4. Beyonce runs the world

In case you were wondering, Beyonce runs the world now and forever. She made this perfectly clean - you know, for those living under rocks - at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. She made her point so strongly during the visually extravagant performance of "Who Runs The World (Girls)" that she startled Matthew Morrison a bit.

5. Five, six, seven, eight and...

While performing "God Is a DJ" in 2003, Pink shoved one of her dancers' face into her lower lady bit region. It appeared the move was well within rehearsed choreography, but still kinda shocking.

6. Better Belieb it

When Justin Bieber walked up to accept his Milestone Award in 2013, he was greeted by resounding "boos." Apparently the audience didn't quite agree with the fans, who voted that the Biebs receive the award.

7. A touching tribute

In 2012, Jordin Sparks and John Legend performed a heartfelt tribute to Whitney Houston who had passed away earlier in 2012. Jordin, who appeared in the film Sparkle with Whitney Houston, sang the ballad the late superstar made famous, "I Will Always Love You."

8. And here's a song he wrote for me

Model and actress Chrissy Teigen - who is hosting the show in 2015 - introduced her hubby John Legend in 2014. He would then perform "All of Me," a song he wrote for Chrissy. Talk about upping the "aww" factor!

9. Mariah belts it out

In a way only she can, Mariah Carey wow'd the crowd in 1999 during her performance if "I Still Believe." The Billboard Music Awards take place in Vegas, so it's not that much of a stretch to hope Mariah graces the stage at the award show this year. Please, Mariah?

10. The danger zone

R&B star Miguel performed his break-out hit "Adorn" at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards. During his show, he jumped from one part of the stage to the other, but misjudged the distance and landed on two fans in the crowd. There were no serious injuries, except perhaps Miguel's pride.

11. Moonwalking holograms

In 2014, Michael Jackson appeared on the Billboard Music Awards stage. Not an easy feat, considering the pop icon passed away in 2009. Much like Tupac at Coachella, the audienced experienced Michael Jackson as a hologram on stage. It was pretty epic, as the hologram star performed songs from his latest album, Xscape, and danced across the stage in true Michael Jackson fashion.

12. Hard twerk

Nicki Minaj puts on a great show, and the 2013 Billboard Music Awards were no different. She performed "High School" from her album The Pink Print: Roman Reloaded - The Re-up and invited Lil' Wayne to rap his versus from the single. Not only did Lil' Wayne get to perform, he got a full-on lap dance from Minaj. It's a wonder he was able to focus on the show at all!
