Except… her VMAs performance of "Gimme More" is mostly remembered for three things: 1) her bad weave; 2) her bad lip-synching and 3) her bad choreography. Gimme more indeed.

Designer Marjan Pejoski created the bird-shaped dress for the eccentric Icelandic singer. It was something different in a sea of similar-looking gowns and tuxedos on the red carpet, but most fashion critics called it fowl.

Opel, a photographer and gallery owner, stripped naked and ran on stage and flashed a peace sign — and, you know, everything else — while David Niven was at the podium. Without missing a beat, the acerbic Englishman said, "Isn't it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?"

It's sort of like the Heaven's Gate of award shows. In the opening number, Snow White is searching for Hollywood's biggest stars. Her blind date, Rob Lowe (fresh off his 1988 sex tape scandal), helps her sing "Proud Mary" with new lyrics. (Sample: "You became a star as an animated mama/earned yourself a place in the Walk of Fame.") And it kind of went downhill from there. Julie Andrews, Paul Newman, Gregory Peck, Billy Wilder, Sidney Lumet were among the Hollywood giants who signed a public letter of complaint, calling the whole mess "an embarrassment."

The Academy wanted to recognize the talents of reality-show hosts, so they asked them to host the telecast itself. In a painfully awkward opener, Howie Mandel, Ryan Seacrest, Heidi Klum, Tom Bergeron and Jeff Probst improvised a "real" conversation designed to represent reality TV, proving that as bad as awards-show scripts are, they actually are better than nothing.

When U2 won the Golden Globe for a song they wrote for Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York, Bono was super happy. He was so happy he called it "f---ing brilliant" on stage. It was an almost-disaster: The FCC rejected complaints that it was offensive lodged by the Parents Television Council, and instead ruled the incident as "fleeting and isolated."

In a moment that appears to have inspired Kanye West, rapper ODB charged the stage while poor Shawn Colvin was accepting an award to decry Wu Tang Clan's loss to Sean "He Was Called Puffy Then" Combs in the Best Rap Album category. "I apologize, my darling," ODB said to Colvin, who mostly just tried to keep her distance.

That same night, Michael Portnoy, an extra/performance artist hired to dance in the background during Bob Dylan's performance of "Love Sick," ripped off his shirt, revealing the words "SOY BOMB" written on his chest, and dance spastically next to Dylan. He later explained to Entertainment Weekly that the term "soy bomb" means "what I think art should be: dense, transformational, explosive life." So... there you have it.

After opening the show with a high-energy performance with his band Poison and the cast of Rock of Ages, Michaels gets hit in the head by a piece of descending scenery. Tony organizers said Michaels missed his mark, a charge that the rocker disputed.

Kathy Griffin makes Dakota Fanning rehab jokes on the 2005 Golden Globes red carpet To spice up her gig on E!'s red carpet, Griffin decided to start a fake rumor about the then-10-year-old star of War of the Worlds. Celebrities got the joke, but DreamWorks was not amused by how the joke might affect the film's box office. Griffin was fired.

Presenting the year's Best Picture Drama award, Taylor began to open the envelope — before reading the names of the nominees. When the crowd verbally tried to stop her, she looked up and said, to nobody in particular: "What?" Producer Dick Clark then took the stage to assist Taylor, who then read the names and announced the winner: "Glaaadiator!" she chirped.
