Shalhoub returned to TV with Neil Patrick Harris in this short-lived NBC sitcom in 1999. He played Ian Stark, an eccentric horror writer who loves to pull morbid practical jokes. Harris played his book editor, Henry, an obsessive-compulsive character not unlike Adrian Monk.

The Man Who Wasn't There

Shalhoub earned a handful of supporting actor nominations from critics groups for his portrayal of defense attorney Freddy Riedenschneider in the Coen brothers' neo-noir film.
