Parental hearts broke around the country last spring when Designated Survivor was canceled by ABC after two seasons, but then Netflix came in at the last second and said that the thrilling drama about the world's most reluctant president would continue for at least one more season.

Designated Survivor is the story of Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland), the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, who suddenly gets promoted to President of the United States when a terrorist attack kills the rest of the cabinet and most of Congress during the State of the Union address. The first two seasons explored how a man who was looking to leave Washington in general deals with suddenly becoming the leader of the free world while trying to seek out the people responsible for the terrorist attack. The series also stars Maggie Q, Italia Ricci, and Kal Penn.

However, when Season 2 left off, Kirkman made the decision to run for his first term as an elected president, taking all reluctance out of the role. He'll have to take on his first major campaign without his wife (Natascha McElhone), who was assassinated in the second season and with the audience knowing that his closest confidant, Emily (Ricci), might be working for the Russians. Oh my!
