Relationship status: It's complicated

Over the past four seasons of How to Get Away with Murder,Frank (Charlie Weber) and Laurel (Karla Souza) have been a thing, then a secret thing, then not a thing at all, then a thing with a pregnancy involved, and now... we'll, we're still not exactly sure what kind of thing they are anymore.

Being a full-time mother now, Laurel probably won't have much time to sit down and DTR with Frank, when Season 5 picks back up, but that doesn't mean that they're not going to continue to have the same ever-shifting relationship dynamic we've come to know them for. According to Charlie Weber, "it's complicated" is practically their resting pulse at this point.

"I can never tell if we're together or apart, which I think is great," Weber told TV Guide at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. "It sort of lends itself to what that relationship is. You have two people who are just fire and gasoline, and they can't quite figure out how to make this thing work. They always have an excuse, there's always a reason to not be together, but they always still kind of are."

How to Get Away with Murder: Could Gabriel Maddox Be Bonnie's Son?

Luckily, it sounds like Laurel's newborn son, Christopher -- named after his father Wes, aka Christophe (Alfie Allen) -- won't become a roadblock for any future reconciliation. If anything, Weber says, Frank's going to adjust to having this child in his life in a pretty mature manner.

"Frank loves the baby, and so I think that's an interesting side [to explore]. I think you might see of Frank responding to feeling a little responsible for this kid," Weber says. "It's the child of the woman that he loves, despite being Wes', who he was not the biggest fan of."

How to Get Away with Murder premieres Thursday, Sept. 27 at 10/9c on ABC.
