For its second season, Dirty John is moving from Bravo to USA Network and bringing to life a new -- but still true -- story of twisted romance gone wrong.

Per Deadline, the anthology series has cast Amanda Peet and Christian Slater to star in Season 2 as real-life murderer Betty Broderick (Peet) and her ex-husband Daniel T. Broderick III (Slater). In 1991, Betty Broderick was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder after sneaking in and shooting her ex-husband and his new wife, Linda, in their home. The show is expected to span the duration of their long and tumultuous marriage, which began in 1969 and ended in 1986, after Daniel's relationship with Linda began.

How Connie Britton Tackled Her Most Challenging Scene in Dirty John

In a statement, creator and writer Alexandra Cunningham said of the casting news, "The first season of Dirty John was a story of twisted love and coercive control -- and both these insidious elements are also present in and integral to the story of Betty Broderick, whom I have wanted to write about since I became a writer. I can't wait to see Amanda and Christian bring it to life."

Dirty John's first season featured Connie Britton and Eric Bana as Debra Newell and John Meehan in its dramatized version of the true story of a California businesswoman who fell in love with a con man, and their marriage ended in homicide. Britton was nominated for a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award for her performance.

Dirty John Season 1 is available to stream (for rental or purchase) on Amazon Prime Video.
