24 Episodes 2001 - 2002
Season Twelve of NBC's hit, long-running procedural drama "Law & Order" continues to tell the ongoing saga of the NYPD detectives who investigate homicides and the DA's office responsible for prosecuting them within the judicial system. This season brings back five regulars from the Season Eleven cast: Senior Detective Lennie Briscoe (Jerry Orbach), detective supervisor Anita Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson), Detective Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin), Executive ADA Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) and Interim D.A. Nora Lewin (Dianne Wiest). Making her debut is the character of ADA Serena Southerlyn, portrayed by Elisabeth Röhm. Stories this season include: the fatal stabbing of a USAF veteran, with its ties to a horrific event that befell him during the Vietnam War; forensic errors that turn up from a 12-year-old case which originally enabled Van Buren's promotion within the department; an inner-city arson tied to an extremist environmentalist group; and the mysterious explosion of a rent-controlled apartment building that has just gone on tenant strike.
