Season Fourteen (2003-4) of the hit NBC procedural drama "Law & Order" carried with it a milestone: this was the last regular season appearance of longtime actor Jerry Orbach as Senior Detective Lennie Briscoe; in the spring of 2004, the performer moved to a spin-off, "Law & Order: Trial By Jury," but died in mid-season. Additional characters appearing alongside Briscoe in the character's final year include: Detective Supervisor Anita Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson), Detective Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin), Executive ADA Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston), ADA Serena Southerlyn (Elisabeth Röhm), and DA Arthur Branch (Fred Dalton Thompson). Stories this season include: the relationship between a bounty hunter's death and a reporter with questionable standards; a case where the decomposed body of a woman turns up in the Hudson, leading investigators to explore the connection between her prospective attorney and a crooked judge; the death a fraudulent grief counselor who gets poisoned by one of his victims; and ultimately, Briscoe's departure from the 27th.
