If you're looking for anything Disney, the best place to find it these days is on Disney+. Disney's signature streaming service not only has the trademark films from the classic Disney catalog, but also movies from Pixar Animation, Marvel Studios, National Geographic, and Lucasfilm (Star Wars, of course). There's a plethora of on-demand content, including original, exclusive series, TV cartoons, and live-action movies.

Disney+

Disney+ has truly impressive standard features. Starting at $8/month, Disney+ has gotten a bit pricier in recent times. But, ultimately, the value of any streaming platform comes down to whether it has the right content for you.

Disney+ is also offered in a number of bundle packages, too, offering a better bang for your buck while collecting multiple streaming services at once. Check out the Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ bundle or the brand-new Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle to see if either of those pique your fancy instead.

Now, it's time to find out if Disney+ hits that mark for your budget.

Disney+ Compared to Other TV Streaming Services

Disney+ allows subscribers to download shows and films for offline viewing. How much you can download depends on the device you're using and how much space it has. Typically, most movies and TV shows downloaded from Disney+ will go from 2GB to 4GB, so keep that in mind before crowding your device. But this isn't what we love most about the streaming service. The primary benefit of Disney+ over competitors is its vast library of exclusive Disney favorites that you can't find anywhere else.

Disney+ also sets itself apart by featuring 4K and HDR (Dolby Vision) as a standard feature for many titles. As for pricing, Disney decided to create an all-in-one package for subscribers. You don't have to think too long or hard about which plan to choose — decide whether you want ads or not, and you'll have full access to the Disney+ library either way. It is what it is and we love that we don't have to make many choices when subscribing.

One downside is that Disney+ does require users to pay extra to view ad-free content, though this is increasingly the standard for services like Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max. Disney+ also doesn't have the wide range of films and shows that you can find on these other platforms, where there is an abundance of both kid-friendly and mature content from a wider range of studios. That being said, most platforms don't have a majority of what's in Disney+'s catalog.

How Much Does Disney+ Cost?

Starting at $8/month for just Disney+, the price eliminates the indecision that comes from debating plans by offering an all-in-one subscription. If you'd prefer to go ad-free, you can upgrade for $14/month or $140/year.

As previously mentioned, Disney+ also offers loads of bundles. For $15/month, you will be able to snag the ad-supported version of Disney+ and Hulu, along with ESPN+. At $17/month, users can get the brand-new Disney+, Hulu, and Max subscription (with ads), which saves users a lot in comparison to purchasing all individually. To get the Hulu and ESPN+ bundle with no ads (aside from ESPN+ which will still have ads), it'll cost you $25/month.

If you want to add a cable-like experience to your Disney plan, Hulu + Live TV comes with Disney+ and ESPN+, along with access to more than 85 live channels starting at $77/month.

Disney+ Deals and Discounts

In 2019, a Disney+ free trial was launched with a few mobile carrier-specific promotions to attract new subscribers. The service is still offering many of these deals, including the following:

Hulu's Disney Add-on

For Hulu subscribers who want to add Disney+ content to their plan but aren't interested in the ESPN+ content that comes with the Disney Bundle, Hulu has made Disney+ an optional add-on with the Duo plan, which costs $10/month if you're okay with ads, or $20/month if you prefer an ad-free experience.

Disney+ Verizon Deal

New and existing Verizon customers have the opportunity to get Disney+ or the Disney Bundle depending on their qualifying Unlimited phone plan

New and existing customers with a line subscribed to the Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate plan can enroll in the Disney Bundle perk for six months at no additional cost. This bundle includes Disney+ (No Ads), Hulu (With Ads), and ESPN+ (With Ads). After the six-month promotional period, the perk continues at $10/month unless canceled or unregistered, providing an $9/month savings compared to the current $19/month rate for Verizon Disney Bundle subscribers. If you're a Verizon user, this is certainly one to check out.

Disney+ Deals Compared

Disney's stance on free trials and deals for Disney+ mirrors that of Netflix and Max, as all three services have shied away from offering various deals or free trials to new subscribers.

This lack of a free trial and any explicit promotions is a unique move for these streaming services, as many of the big-name streamers like Hulu and Fubo still offer free trials and other deals to attract new subscribers.

For instance, students can take advantage of the Hulu Student Deal, which allows them to access the streaming service's ad-free plan for $2/month — a deal that is tough to beat. Hulu also offers a free 30-day trial. New Fubo subscribers can get a free seven-day trial with the streamer, something Disney+ doesn't currently offer.

Normally, a streaming service with no real promotions or a free trial would be set up to fail. But Disney's strength of brand has kept it competitive despite the lack of deals. It doesn't hurt that Disney+ is basically the only place you can stream much of this content.

Disney+ Content

Disney is not subtle when showing off its prestigious content, nor should it be. The streaming platform offers all kinds of new and classic content limited to Disney+, with a running total of 500 films, 15,000 episodes, and 80 Disney+ Originals. You won't find many of these Disney+ movies or TV shows on Netflix, Hulu, or YouTube TV

Series and movies that are available exclusively on Disney+ include many National Geographic series, Marvel films and shows (excluding Sony Entertainment franchises like Spider-Man and Venom movies), Pixar shows and films, and Star Wars shows and films.

Some of the most popular films and TV shows on Disney+ include Disney animated films Moana, Frozen, and Toy Story 4, as well as Star Wars films and TV shows and the Avengers series. You'll even find Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on Disney+, as well as other Marvel films. You can also watch Oscar-nominated films, such as Luca, West Side Story, and more.

Whether you're an adult wanting to relive your childhood or simply sharing some of the favorite TV shows of your youth with your children, you can also find TV shows, such as X-Men, Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, and more, as well as classic films like Hocus Pocus, The Princess Bride, Home Alone, and more. And, of course, let's not forget adorable Baby Yoda, the shining star of The Mandalorian, who was a big enough reason for some people to hop on the Disney+ bandwagon.

Top Movies and Shows on Disney+

Here are some popular TV series and movies you can watch on the Disney+ streaming service:

Disney+ Features

DVR: Disney+ offers no DVR options because there is no live programming. The good news is that you can watch everything on the platform on demand around the clock. You also have the option to download shows and movies, which makes content available for viewing when you're offline.

Simultaneous streams: Currently, you can stream on up to four devices at once on one Disney+ account. This provides for ample sharing in most households, and limiting simultaneous streams lowers the buffer rates for all subscribers. You can also create up to six user accounts, so everyone in the house can have their own viewing profiles.

Sports: Apart from certain sports movies and documentaries, Disney+ on its own is not the streaming service for sports fans. One of the Trio bundles that includes ESPN+ gives you access to sporting events, so we recommend bundling if you're looking to watch some of your favorite sports and teams.

Disney+ Supported Devices

Ready to watch Disney+? You can log into the app from most internet-connected devices. Keep in mind that even if your device is on the list of supported devices, you may need to have a current operating system to be compatible with the Disney+ app.

Compatible devices include:

  • iOS and iPadOS

  • Android

  • Android TV (Google TV)

  • Windows 10 & 11

  • Amazon Fire Tablet and TV

  • LGTVs with webOS

  • Samsung TVs with Tizen

  • Hisense Smart TVs

  • Google Chromecast

  • AppleTV

  • Apple AirPlay compatible TVs

  • Sony PS4 and PS5

  • Xbox One and Xbox One Series X/S

  • PC and Mac desktops and laptops via web browsers

Is Disney+ Worth It?

Considering its exclusive content and low price point, Disney+ is worth every penny if you want the exclusive content library it offers. With a Disney+ login and account, you have access to hundreds of titles you won't find on any other streaming service. Offering 4K, HDR (Dolby Vision) support, as well as offline downloading, the Disney+ streaming service has effectively pulled many premium-class benefits into a standard, affordable package.

Despite not currently having a free trial period, with pricing starting at only $8/month, Disney+ has easily become a fan favorite.
