This film explores the last frontier: the oceans. The oceans are the site of the highest mountains in the world. They contain untold riches in animal and plant life, food, minerals, and medicines. Using computer animation, scientists explain the effects of wind and ocean currents. El Niño was one such effect. The viewer is educated on ocean pollution and global warming. Beautiful color photography reveals some of the fantastic marine life in this underwater world. A highlight is the look at Kon Tiki, the boat built by Thor Heyerdahl. In 1947, the Norwegian and his crew sailed a balsa wood flat-bottomed boat for 4300 miles from South America to Polynesia to prove his theory that it was possible for the source of Polynesian culture to have been South America. The film promotes understanding of the mysterious world of the ocean.
