The Game Is Over Reviews

Fonda is the wealthy young wife of Piccoli and is bored with her husband. When his stepson, who is the same age as Fonda, pays a visit, she is much taken by him, which leads to her request for a divorce. Piccoli agrees, and Fonda goes to Switzerland to annul the marriage. While she is away, Piccoli pressures his spineless stepson into getting engaged to the daughter of a banker. Fonda returns and is near suicide when she attends her lover's engagement party. The finale has Fonda, dripping wet from a death leap into a pool, sitting alone in acceptance of a now empty life. As usual in a Vadim film, there is a vast amount of nudity, though Fonda, who once sued Playboy for printing nude photos, commented that this film did more for her career as a serious actress than any other film.
