Though set against a backdrop of real-life conflict in Bosnia, this hackneyed action picture is far more interested in star Athena Massey's nudity. This nonsense reaches its apotheosis in the scene in which she opens fire on soldiers in the forest while wearing nothing but a bra and panties! Demented Serbian commander Yurdovich (Alexander Ilyin) uses chemical weapons to gas UN peacekeepers and issues an ultimatum to NATO and the United Nations: If they don't withdraw their troops he'll unleash more super-toxins. The Joint Security Council doesn't intend to let Yurdovich use terror to create an independent Serbian nation, so it call on secret weapon: Dylan Pope (Steve Railsback). Physically enhanced through with bionic technology, Pope may be the only man who could withstand Yurdovich's unstoppable bio-toxin. Flanked by agents Ted Marks (Eb Lottimer) and Delilah Shane (Athena Massey), Pope must locate and destroy Yurdovich's lethal cache. While Pope's superiors stall Yurdovich at a summit conference, Pope's team infiltrates the commander's fortress. But Pope is betrayed by assorted counter-spies and may not be able to destroy the nerve gas before Yurdovich orders his second wave of slaughter. Worse still, he begins to suspect that there's a mole within NATO who's tipping off the Serbian nationalist forces. This assembly-line free-for-all replaces old cliches — dirty communists and drug-dealing Colombians — with an undated but no less reductive one, the aspiring Serbian dictator, though as archfiends go Yurdovich is actually less imposing than most. The film sweeps political considerations under the rug of stunt work, which may appeal to action buffs. That said, the film could more accurately be called BOSNIAN AMBUSH, given the baddies' proclivity for sneaking up on our heroes. The slightly built Railsback is a dubious choice for this sort of macho hero, and it's always clear when his stunt double steps in. Girl watchers will have no such reservations about Massey, who disrobes so often that she might as well be in a documentary about nudists who run with the wolves.
