Dull attempt at a mystery-thriller has Pidgeon playing the detective from the popular novel. Here he is investigating a spy ring, bringing the culprits to justice without doing much sleuthing. This was the last of three Nick Carter films, the first two, NIC CARTER, MASTER DETECTIVE (1939) and PHANTOM RAIDERS (1941) benefiting from the stylish direction of Jacques Tourneur.
