Shining Victory Reviews

Overly sentimental drama has Stephenson as a devoted medical researcher forced to flee from Budapest when his boss discovers some of his findings. He goes to Scotland and quickly gets back to work. His stubborn character comes into play when he is provided with a woman, Fitzgerald, as an assistant. But the two fall in love anyway and make plans to marry once Stephenson's research is completed. However, Fitzgerald is killed in a fire in an attempt to save Stephenson's records. He then devotes the rest of his career to her memory and travels to China to continue her medical missionary work. Both Stephenson and Fitzgerald are convincing, but the material is heavy-handed and a bit hard to stomach. This was the first directorial job for Rapper, whose talents for tear-jerkers would be fulfilled in NOW, VOYAGER the following year.
