Seventeen Reviews

SEVENTEEN was originally made in 1916 as a silent film; Paramount produced this talking version of Booth Tarkington's story about the growing pains of adolescence. Cooper is excellent as an average high-school boy worrying about his grades, but when sophisticated Field arrives on the scene, the boy forgets why he is in school. He pays for her dates with other fellows, puts out the money for a car to impress her, and basically does everything to please his new-found object of infatuation. It's corny, but the story is handled in a skillful manner.
