Long before he set up shop in Hollywood as Steve Sekeley, Hungarian director Istvan Szekeley turned out a string of entertaining films in his own country. Based on a novel by Erno Szep, Lila Akac (Wisteria) is the story of a poor girl who impulsively falls in love with a wealthy boy as they share a park bench. Already engaged to be married, the boy doesn't give the girl a second thought, whereupon the girl moves out of his life -- only to be unexpectedly reunited with him when she takes a job as a cabaret dancer. This time, the boy does pay attention to the girl, but their happiness is rent asunder by WWI. Ostensibly a vehicle for popular actress Irene Agai, Lila Akac turned out to be a golden opportunity for handsome new leading man George Nagy.
