Two sisters take different paths in their searches for happiness and love in this moral melodrama directed by Cecil B. De Mille. Flora Lee (Lillian Rich) marries a wealthy foreigner to save the family estate but also keeps a lover on the side. The two men fight each other to the death, leaving the merry widow to pursue a candy magnate. Flora Lee spends all his money and he is sentenced to five years in prison for misappropriation of company funds. Flora's sister Margaret (Vera Reynolds) saves the company from financial ruin. Flora turns the once-opulent mansion into a boarding house and takes ill before her husband is released from prison. He returns in time to see her just before she dies, with the virtuous Margaret left to console the grieving husband. Henry Walthal, Rod La Rocque, Theodore Kosloff, and Warner Baxter co-star with Robert Cain, Julia Faye, and Robert Edeson.
