When they find a pair of bloody shears, they arrest the owner, but after she testifies before the grand jury, they refuse to indict. McCoy then learns learn that the building owner co-owns the building with her brother and that he and the murdered woman were involved. But the man claims he is estranged from his sister.

When he surrenders and is taken in, his lawyer, has all the evidence that they found thrown out and his admission suppressed. McCoy allows the hostage to testify what she hears which leads to his conviction. But after, Serena finds herself appearing before the Bar Ethics Committee over actions; letting the man assume she was there for him. McCoy represents her, while Lewin is on the fence.

So they go to her school and learn that she complained about a misogynistic website and the ones who placed it, a couple of male students were suspended because of it. So they wonder if they tried to get payback. Eventually Briscoe and Green learn they tried to assault her but stopped when she said she's a lesbian. So Serena looks into it and learns she was going to press charges. So could she have been killed to stop her and who would have wanted her not to.
