Sling TV is the perfect mix of more than 50 channels, thousands of on-demand TV shows and movies, plenty of add-on options, and 50 hours of DVR storage all in one streaming service. With prices starting at $35/mo., Sling TV offers three plans for prospective subscribers that have a wide variety of channels and capabilities. Sling TV offers a free trial and several promotions, offers, and more to help you save on a subscription.

How to Get a Sling TV Free Trial?

Sling TV offers a three-day free trial to new subscribers. This free trial works with any plan (Sling Orange, Sling Blue, or Sling Orange + Blue) and gives potential subscribers a chance to try out the streamer before committing to an actual service plan. The free trial is available on Sling TV's website and through its app on a streaming device like Roku, Google TV, Apple TV, and others. To get a Sling TV free trial, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Sling TV app on your streaming device or its website on a web browser on your laptop or mobile device

  2. Find the button that says "Watch Now 3 Days Free" and click

  3. Create your account

  4. Choose your plan

  5. Put in your payment information

You should know that once you've linked a credit card or other payment method to your account, you won't automatically be charged. Your three-day free trial will start immediately after, and you'll be charged for your subscription once the trial ends. You'll be able to cancel at any time, even after your three-day free trial, so fret not if you're unsure about the service.

However, Sling TV's three-day free trial is less than other trials offered by other live TV streaming services -- Philo and fuboTV all offer seven-day free trials to new subscribers. Sling TV's base subscription price and customizable extras give it a bit of a lift among these live TV streaming giants.

Sling TV Deals and Discounts

If you're looking for Sling TV promotions beyond the standard three-day free trial, then you're in luck. All new Sling TV subscribers are also eligible for a first month $10 discount and free DVR (up to 50 hours) upon signup. Those who sign up for the service will automatically qualify for the discount and be charged the appropriate amount when their free trial ends.

Right now, Sling TV subscribers can receive a free Chromecast with Google TV (a $50 value) -- a device like an Amazon Fire TV Stick that lets you get Sling TV on just about any TV -- if they prepay for just one month of the service. This is one of the more creative promotions live TV streaming services like Sling TV have created to incentivize prospective subscribers. And it's helped Sling TV stand apart from the competition.

Sling TV isn't the cheapest service listed, but it's the only one that offers a free trial, first-month discount, and various other promotions to new and existing subscribers. Considering the hefty price tag that comes with a subscription to most live TV streaming services today, it's nice to know that there are some live TV streamers out there that are still making discounts and promotions a priority.

Sling TV fits the bill when it comes to affordability, but there are certain things that the service lacks. For example, local channels aren't included with any of the Extra offerings.

And, if you are looking for more content and live channels to watch, then a subscription with Hulu + Live TV may be a better choice. Sling TV offers more than 50 channels to consumers who purchase the Sling Orange + Blue plan for $50/mo, which is less than Hulu Live's more than 85 channels.

That's $15 more than a basic Sling Orange or Blue plan, but $15 less than a standard Hulu + Live TV or fuboTV subscription. No, you won't be able to watch channels like Disney Channel or MTV with a basic Sling TV subscription, but at least you'll have plenty of discounts and promotions to keep costs low.

Sling TV Bundles and Extras

Currently, Sling TV does not offer any bundle deals like you might find with Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+. Technically speaking, you do get a multi-service discount and save 25% when you sign up for the Sling Orange + Blue plan versus each individual plan alone. This plan gives you access to 50+ channels in the service's lineup.

If you're looking to further enhance your subscription, you might also consider the various extras the service offers. You can add channels for comedy, news, sports, kids programming, and more, but the most cost-effective way is with the add-on deal below which bundles several extras:

Total TV Deal

All subscribers are eligible for this multi-extra discount that gives you Comedy Extra, News Extra, Heartland Extra, Sports Extra, Kids Extra, Lifestyle Extra, Hollywood Extra, and DVR Plus for a discounted price. The Total TV Deal cost an additional $21/mo. for Sling Orange and Blue subscribers, while Sling Orange + Blue users can get the deal for an additional $27/mo. You can save up to $32/mo. with this deal, making it the best deal Sling TV is currently offering.

Sports Extras

Sling TV can also be a great option for sports fans. For an additional $11/mo. for Orange and Blue subscribers ($15/mo. for Orange + Blue subscribers), the Sports Extra add-on grants you access to more than 20 sports channels like: Big Ten Network, ESPNU, SEC network, ACC Network Plus, NHL Network, and NBA TV. The add-on features many major sports events that happen during any given year as well, from the national favorites like the Super Bowl to the romps around the world with the Olympics.

Our Final Take

Sling TV is one of the few streaming services out there that isn't afraid to offer its subscribers a good deal. Whether it's a free trial to get you started or a free streaming device or HD antenna, all signs point to more promotions on the way. Be sure to keep a lookout for deals and discounts if you're planning to sign up for Sling TV, or already have an existing subscription. But don't forget to utilize the Sling TV free trial first to get more bang for your buck.
