Question: MNFC stands for My New Favorite Comedy (Ask Ausiello 10/12). Do I win anything?Answer: It's all about winning stuff with you, Ken. Greedy bastard.
Question: When you say Lost is out of control, is that good or bad?Answer: That's very good.
Question: That's it. I'm done reading AA. You said Scrubs would be back the week of Oct.16, but still no Scrubs!Answer: I said it might be back the week if Oct. 16. Might. And do I have to remind you that we're on the same side here? Do I? Sheesh.
Question: Poop is even worse than prattle! Try "dish" next time.Answer: Nope, I think we're going to stick with poop for the time being. Traffic to Ask Ausiello spiked to record levels last week and TPTB think all the extra poop had something to do with it. They'd s--t themselves if I dropped it now.
Question: I've been hearing rumors that Samaire Armstrong is returning to The O.C.? Any truth to this?Answer: There's nothing planned just yet, but I'd be shocked if we didn't see Anna pop in this season.
Question: Any poop on Night Stalker? I haven't seen any and I think it could turn out to be a pretty good show if ABC gives it long enough.Answer: Our latest podcast with exec producer Frank Spotnitz was a virtual Night Stalker poopalooza, so you'll definitely want to listen to that. Spotnitz also gave us a status report on the second X-Files movie.
Question: Are you no longer writing Entertainment News? You've been using subs for the past week!Answer: What, a Trojan can't take a few days off to attend the "greatest college football game ever played"?
Question: You need to hand over some of that Charmed poop you're not sharing! That, or I best see some hardcore Nip/Tuck poop. Your choice.Answer: Let's go with Charmed. On Nov. 13, Ivan Sergei, who put the Jill in Jack & Jill, kicks off a nine-episode arc as a romantic interest for Paige. He plays a parole officer whom Paige meets while trying to help one of her charges as a Whitelighter.
Question: Is it true that Grissom on CSI sleeps with someone on his team this season? If so, please tell me it's not Catherine.Answer: It's not Catherine. At least I don't think it is. It appears producers are heading toward a Sara-Grissom-Sofia triangle instead. Next month, Grissom and Sofia (new series regular Louise Lombard) will share a heart-to-heart in his office, when Sara walks in and thinks she's interrupting something more intimate. Cue flying sparks.
Question: I enthusiastically read that The Shield's fifth season has been extended by eight episodes for a total of 21. Is that because they needed more episodes to wrap up the series for good, or is it an omen for more seasons of possibly the best show on TV?Answer: I'm leaning towards your first theory, especially in light of what series creator Shawn Ryan told me last week. "I'm ready to turn the corner and head for a finish line," he said. "Whether that takes just these [21] episodes, whether it takes some more, I'm not exactly sure yet. I think FX will accommodate me whenever I think I want the ending to be. But there's a light at the end of the tunnel." Ryan added that a decision will likely be made before the fifth season kicks off in January.
Question: My friends and I totally want our very own Ask Ausiello T-shirts! How many people need to e-mail you in order for TPTB to get their acts together?Answer: At least 10 people with absolutely no relation to me, I'm told. I just need two more!
Question: You mentioned dharmaindustries.com in regards to Lost websites, but I just wanted to add that there is also thehansofoundation.org.Answer: This show is out of control!
Question: You know you want to tell us who dies on Lost! Please don't let it be Kate!Answer: Now you tell me you don't want it to be Kate? Where were you when I was breaking story with Damon Lindelof back in June? Huh? Let me make some phone calls and see if I can get him to whack someone else.
Question: Have you ever consider writing for a sitcom? Your Ask Ausiello column is hilarious.Answer: And leave all this? Pshaw. (Got any leads?)
Question: Since we will never be able to see the alternate ending of American Dreams (I'm not holding my breath that the DVD will ever be released) can someone please just tell us what was in those 12 minutes?! I'm dying to know how it ends!Answer: Details are a little sketchy, but I'm told the epilogue takes place during the Summer of '69 — almost three years after the finale — with Meg a junior at Berkeley. I should have more to share with you in next week's AA.
Question: Any truth that Alias will continue after this season without Jen, but with that new blonde chick in her place? If so, tell the producers to quit while they're behind. I mean ahead. (I'm not bitter about Vaughn. Nope, not me.)Answer: I'm willing to bet my entire collection of 2005 Smurfs that Alias will be put to rest in May.
Question: I watched Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Sunday night and I saw that Ty Pennington stormed into TV Guide's offices. I was looking for you, hoping to see your smiling face. Were you hiding?Answer: If you consider jumping up and down on my desk frantically waving my hands in the air to try to get on camera "hiding," then, yes, I was hiding.
Question: Any special episodes of ER coming up?Answer: Big poops! There's a huge plane-crash episode planned for Nov. 17 that'll feature tennis ace Serena Williams as a woman caught in the wreckage on the ground. November/December will also spotlight guest turns by former teen idol C. Thomas Howell (Nov. 10) and The Practice's Lisa Gay Hamilton (Dec. 8). But the really big news is that Rescue Me spitfire Callie Thorne — she plays Denis Leary's psycho stalker Sheila — has landed the pivotal role of John Leguizamo's sexed-up ex. Her first episode airs Dec. 8 and, well, I may have to start watching ER again! OK, folks, that's all the poop that's fit to print. Before I go, what do you say you join me in a chorus of "Fight On!" to commemorate USC's historic win Saturday against the Fighting Irish. Pleas
Question: Did you see Kristen Bell on Leno last Wednesday? She wanted to change her name to Smurfette when she was a kid! That's got to get her some Ausiello love, right? She should be promoted to Mariska status for that, no?Answer: I didn't see it, but I heard all about it from my peeps (read: you guys!). And yes, her stock soared with that nifty revelation.
Question: You've answered a lot of questions about Vaughn and Alias but not this one: Did Michael Vartan elect to leave, or was he fired?Answer: Well, as you might expect, it's complicated. Here's what I've been told from a reliable source close to the situation. Shortly after Vartan and J.Ga's big split, Vartan allegedly made it known that he wouldn't be terribly upset if Vaughn were to get whacked while on assignment. TPTB, in turn, made it known that Vartan had a contract to honor and, well, he better suck it up and be a professional. Cut to 2005: Producers, looking for a way to revitalize the show and give Sydney a personal mission in Alias' final season, finally granted Vartan his wish. There was just one problem: Vartan was once again loving his job and didn't want to go. But the writing was already on the wall
Question: Did Joss Whedon mention Charisma Carpenter being on Veronica Mars while you were interviewing him? Is there any chance the rift between them has healed?Answer: Yes, he discussed Charisma and yes, I think we can assume from his comments that the rumored hatchet has been buried. This is what he said when I asked him why he thinks Charisma keeps getting cast as bitchy sexpots: "She looks the part, let's face it. She's a stunner, she's voluptuous, she's got that sort of air about her. But she's not that person at all… I mean, Cordelia was that person until we said, 'Let's see the other side.' She can just sort of take that and hit it out of the park, and then if you need to get in deeper, there's more there. Whether or not they're going
Question: Can we purchase the Guide to TV in stores?Answer: Yes, it's available exclusively at Barnes & Noble. But it would probably be faster if you just bought it directly from the TV Guide store by clicking here.
