It's time for the semi-annual birthday war between Rob and Ryan, this time it's Rob's turn to "celebrate" Ryan's birthday. Although it will have enough prank value incorporating the support of Hollywood friends as have the previous entries in the war, Rob, as is his and Ryan's want with the team as a whole, decides to give back to the community in creating a "Ryan Rodney Reynolds Memorial Park" on what has long been a derelict brownfield site in the heart of Wrexham. Rob and Ryan's hope in giving back to the community as with this park is that it will also spur other opportunities, such as with businesses hopefully wanting to move back into the neighborhood. They have also wanted to lend their support in any way they can for the long term livelihood for the players, meaning past their lives as footballers as Rob and Ryan realize, as with show business, it can be a very fleeting business, especially as an injury, a real professional hazard, can change things on a dime.

Episode 5
Thu, May 23, 202446 mins
The temporary nature of certain issues with Wrexham AFC and with life in general are discussed. Injuries and other issues have led to a revolving door at certain positions, most notably at goalkeeper, someone coming off the bench mid-game at that position more difficult than other positions. Rob and Ryan have been dealing with fixing up the Kop ever since they purchased the team, regulatory and financial hurdles which has led to delay after delay. While things on that issue seem to be at least known as eventually getting done, they try to push the issue of installing temporary seating in the Kop to meet increased demand which has regulatory and financial hurdles in and of itself. One of Wrexham AFC's primary rivals over the past few years has had different fortunes of late making them, at least this stage in the season, no longer a rival, seemingly due to some fundamental changes behind the bench. And a key player with Wrexham reflects on the temporary nature of life itself when he speaks of his wife's pregnancy where it was not certain if either mom or child would survive the early childbirth. But what seems to be forever is the support Wrexham AFC has received from Arthur Massey who, on the eve of his one hundredth birthday, is believed to be the team's oldest and longest supporter, he attending his first game at age seven.

The exportation of Wrexham AFC is presented. A century and a half ago, a group of Welsh emigrated to Patagonia. Many of their descendants still feel patriotically Welsh and are among Wrexham AFC's most fervent supporters despite not ever having stepped foot in Wales. Rob and Ryan decide to do something to show them how much their nationalism and support means to them and the team. On occasion, players are given the honor of being asked to play on their home country's national team in international competitions, Jacob Mendy the first Wrexham player to be asked to play for The Gambia. Sponsored in part by HP, Wrexham AFC is publishing a children's book to promote the team, Wrexham and Welsh culture to the rest of the world. On St. David's Day, the most celebratory day in Wales, arguably the most famous person with Wales in his title makes a stop in Wrexham to provide his regards to the team and its supporters. But probably the most important item in this category with regard to the team's fortunes, everyone associated with the team notices a marked difference between their fortunes in home versus away games of late, they needing the even those stats on the winning side for both types of games.

Unsportsmanlike or bad behavior on and off the field is discussed. Such behavior can be ratcheted up a notch in what are deemed derby matches, namely games where there is a historic rivalry, usually due either to being evenly matched or being located close geographically. In such derby matches, local police generally are on heightened alert of potential issues between fans of the opposing teams. On the field, there is the system of, in increasingly severe order, penalties, yellow cards, and red cards, the latter which means an immediate eviction from the game, the team down that one player for the remainder of the game, and a one game suspension. Additionally, cumulative yellow cards over the season can also lead to what is ostensibly a red card violation. Certain players are known as enforcers and are more apt to be carded, such as James McClean who comes by his "anger" in his Northern Irish roots. While such players provide a useful service to the team, yellow cards and red card suspension can prove to be costly, especially as Wrexham, nearing the end of the season, is in a fight to make the top three to avoid the playoffs. For the women, moving up to a semi-professional league this season means a much more physical game which is just more prone to violations.

Rocky (1976) analogies abound regarding underdogs and grit and determination as the football season nears its end. Updates are provided on many Wrexham supporters who have faced issues in their lives, with the role that the team has played in dealing with their issues. Two Wrexham players reach scoring milestones, one of those milestones getting more press based on "prestige" regardless of that the one receiving less press was reached first. With the women, they were not expecting to finish in the top half of standings in their first year in the Adnan national league, let alone in third. But they are definitely considered the underdogs as they play their first ever Welsh Cup final against top ranked Cardiff City. On the men's side, there are five games left in the season, and they need twelve of the maximum fifteen points to ensure finishing in the top three for automatic promotion, that number which will constantly change as results with the other teams in contention (four in total) come in. But in that underdog scenario, it is the teams at the bottom of the standings that could play spoiler as they are arguably playing for something more dire, namely not be relegated. Regardless of what happens, management staff have to plan for the off season and next season to ensure continued growth, which means that some players will play their final game with the team by the end of the season.
