Welcome Back to Wrexham

Tue, Sep 12, 202342 mins

Following the failure to get promoted out of non-league in the 2021-22 season, Wrexham A.F.C. doubles down on ensuring the best roster to achieve promotion: Mark Howard is brought in as a new goalkeeper to replace an injured Lainton and a departing Dibble, while midfielder Elliot Lee arrives to strengthen the offensive line---Lee immediately turns a match against Eastleigh around, but Howard struggles to get a good start for the season. Fans continue to remain hopeful, and embrace the club's sudden international exposure, which helps the town financially, but the board of directors is worried that the club becomes unsustainable if promotion isn't achieved this year, based on the expenses to build a competitive squad and renovate the stadium. King Charles III arrives to honor Wrexham becoming a city, and visits the Racecourse Ground; Reynolds and McElhenney, after going through a crash course on royal etiquette, hope that the visit helps their bid to the Levelling Up Fund to renovate the Kop stand be viewed more favorable; while the full renovation would require £20 million, running out of time, they fund the initial demolition of the old Kop themselves. McElhenney continues to be frustrated by the British bureaucracy, and their bid is eventually rejected, leaving the Kop renovation in limbo.

Nott Yet

Tue, Sep 19, 202323 mins

Eleven games into the season, Wrexham is top of the league with nearly no contest in sight; supporters of other clubs are ambivalent about the Hollywood injection: while some see it as pay-to-win and an additional motivation to beat Wrexham, others appreciate the positive effects on the communities and non-league football as a whole. Wrexham's perfect season, however, is spoiled by an unexpected rival: Notts County and their star striker Macaulay Langstaff, who have been on Wrexham's heels in the table. As their first head-to-head arrives at Meadow Lane, everyone is keenly aware that the two teams will likely decide the championship among themselves, and that their first clash is critical to the rest of the season. In the match, Langstaff takes the lead for Notts early, and Mullin's response in the second half is called offside, leaving the away game as a 1-0 loss. There is also a profile of Mark Griffiths, the long-time commentator of Wrexham's games; it also shows The Declan Swans record a new song "Mullin 10," which Mullin himself is shown approving of in the studio.

Shaun's Vacation

Tue, Sep 26, 202324 mins

Shaun's role as Advisor to the Board was originally meant to be temporary in the realm of weeks to deal with Rob and Ryan getting on board, but he has become one of the most integral members of the team that Rob, Ryan and Humphrey could not imagine doing without. So when Shaun long ago mentioned that he and his wife were planning on taking a week long vacation away during the middle of the season, Rob, Ryan and Humphrey wanted to ensure that it not only happened, but that nothing would interrupt his much needed rest and relaxation, with Humphrey largely to take over Shaun's role that week. But as soon as Shaun leaves, the proverbial s*** hit the fan at the hands of Rob, to a lesser extent Ryan, and star forward Paul, that s*** which Humphrey has to deal with to protect the team at all costs, and has to keep Shaun out of if at all possible if only to maintain Shaun's quiet.

First Losers

Tue, Sep 26, 202321 mins

Despite being near the top of the standings early in the season, not having beaten any of the other teams challenging for the top, and their recent and historical big losses, such as in last year's playoffs and the FA Trophy game, is making many associated with Wrexham AFC feel like they are perpetual bridesmaids. Rob especially has this feeling as every professional sports team he supported this past year has finished second, he and others feeling like it's almost better to finish last than to be so close but not take it across the finish line. The producers speak to who may be seen as the biggest perpetual second place finisher, actress Susan Lucci who lost nineteen consecutive Best Actress nominations in the Daytime Emmy Awards. Many in the team look to an unlikely source for inspiration, Dorking Wanderers FC who is at the bottom of the standings in its first year in the National League but who has a winning mentality.

Ballers

Tue, Oct 3, 202342 mins

What Rob and Ryan invested in was not just a men's football team, but a diverse Wrexham football program which consists of several different age categories and both men and women's teams. The women's first team, the female equivalent of the men's team in the National League, faces many of the challenges of the men in playing in a tiered system where teams can get promoted and demoted each season. While the women are kicking not only balls but the proverbial butts of their competitors in currently being undefeated this season, they have the extra challenges of not having the profile of the men's team, and that they are currently in a non-professional league, meaning that the players have day jobs in order to live and have no long term security to the club in not having contracts. If they are promoted at the end of the season, they will enter a semi-professional league. Rob and Ryan have to work the entire program into their investing plans, the women's game which seems to have a skyrocketing trajectory.

Giant Killers

Tue, Oct 10, 202342 mins

Its time for the 2023 FA Cup, a single knock-out tournament that is known as the great equalizer as any UK football club can enter, from those in the top tier Premiere League to proverbial weekend recreational teams. Wrexham AFC, in past FA Cup tournaments, has been known as the giant killer in beating clubs in higher tiers. Can Wrexham have that same giant killer magic this year? Star players on the team also have something to prove in being criticized in some circles of selling out their football careers all for the sake of a paycheck.

The Grind

Tue, Oct 17, 202332 mins

Due to a series of circumstances, some good and some bad, many of Wrexham AFC's scheduled games have had to be postponed, leaving them a grueling new schedule of nine games between February 11 and March 11 2023, an average of just over two games per week, that is, in a best case scenario, if all goes according to plan. In this second half of the season, only it and Notts County are in contention for first place in the league, Wrexham two points behind but with two games in hand. Injuries and other player issues may come into play in how Wrexham fairs and copes over these nine games. Meanwhile, Wrexham supporter Shaun Winter, partly as a reaction to how he was portrayed in season 1 of the series, has made a conscious decision to change his life, primarily to be a better father, one that his kids will look back on and be proud of.

Glove Triangle

Tue, Oct 17, 202330 mins

The #1 goalkeeper Rob Lainton has just returned to play after being on the injury list for months. It is ironic that his first game will be in Bromley, where he sustained the injury that left him sidelined, and where he also sustained a previous injury. While policy is that injury will not make a player lose his position, his return places Phil, Rob and Ryan somewhat in a situation in that who took Rob's place during his absence, Mark Howard, has largely gotten the team to where it is in Mark only having lost two games. The collective they still realize that they have to protect the franchise as injury has in the past left them exposed in some key positions. So when an opportunity arises to acquire another star goalkeeper to protect themselves, especially at this key moment in the season to win the league, they have to take it.

Hand of Foz

Tue, Oct 31, 202348 mins

Wrexham AFC, on a twenty-eight game undefeated streak, and Notts County are tied atop the standings with 100 points each, the first time that two clubs in the National League have broken the 100 point mark in the same year, and with six and four games left, respectively, both are on course to break the 103 single season points record. Many believe that both teams deserve to be automatically promoted, but that's not how the system works. Thus, the game between the two teams, Wrexham's fifth to last and Notts County's fourth to last, is all the more important, the winner *probably* winning the league and automatic promotion and the loser *probably* relegated to the playoffs.

Promotion is only one item affecting the balance sheet, Rob and Ryan knowing that they will be in the hole financially regardless, the situation worse if they aren't promoted. As such, they have to tap into their Hollywood connections, their friends who also provide some emotional support. Up the Town?

Tue, Nov 14, 202338 mins

People associated with either Wrexham AFC and Notts County can admit that both teams are better than being in the National League, but that history has shown, especially recent history such as with Wrexham AFC last season, that the team finishing second in the league standings invariably does not make it out of the playoffs to get promoted. Even if Notts County finishes second with the maximum 109 points, a record in and of itself (the previous record for number of points in a season being 103, Wrexham already having surpassed that number at 107 with two games remaining), Wrexhamites can admit it would be criminal if Notts County was not promoted. Conversely, Notts Countyites feel the same about Wrexham if Wrexham finishes second. But in the end, only one team can win the league for that automatic promotion.
