This sitcom is about the fairly ordinary daily lives of young newlywed New Yorkers, too-nice-for-his-own-good filmmaker Paul Buchman and his assertive partner Jamie Stemple Buchman, who are almost constantly (working up to) bickering and making up with each other and just about anybody else, notably his parents and siblings, her sister, their colleagues, friends, superintendent, and neighbors, psychotherapist, all kinds of staff, customers, officials, bystanders etc., even their dog Murray and his dog-walker.

Episodes Renewed for Third Season

Matt LeBlanc's Showtime comedy Episodes has been renewed for a nine-episode third season, the cable network announced Thursday.Episodes stars LeBlanc as a fictionalized version of himself, a role which earned him his first Golden Globe and Emmy nods since Friends. Joining LeBlanc again will be Stephen Mangan and Tasmin Greig as Sean and Beverly Lincoln, the creators of a hit British show that is remade as a starring vehicle for LeBlanc in the U.S.

Paul Reiser is returning to television with The Paul Reiser Show, NBC announced Tuesday. The single-camera comedy will star Reiser as himself debating his next career move after years of being off the air. His hit series Mad About You ended in 1999. NBC renews Office, Parks and Rec and Community Rounding out the cast: Amy Landecker (A Serious Man) as his wife, Claire, and Ben Shenkman (Angels in America), Omid Djalili (The Infidel), Duane Martin (All of Us) and Andrew Daly (MADtv) as his unlikely group of friends.

It's difficult to believe that the creators of Showtime's Episodes are not holding a grudge against network TV. Their last series, the CBS sitcom The Class, was axed after one short season, and their follow-up comedy (for cable, natch) is nothing if not an indictment of how the worst broadcast shows get made, sometimes in spite of a great idea. Just take a gander at Episodes' fictional network honcho, a crass and careless tyrant who transforms an urbane British hit about the headmaster of an elite boys school into a broad comedy for American audiences starring Matt LeBlanc.

Here's a sentence I never thought I'd type: The tabloids were right all along. After, like, years of speculation, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey have announced their plan to "part ways," according to a remarkably grammatically correct statement released by the thimble-brained former Newlyweds. "This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other." Whew — so long as their publicists are still getting along. If I were to sum it up in one...

If I were to sum it up in one sentence, I would say: "This monkey of an episode was smokin' but extremely disturbing, scars and all — the middle was a drag, and the end was a real p---er!" But let me elaborate. First of all, why did I have to be eating a late dinner while watching the scene with Ava's dead and decomposing son Adrian on the floor right after Matt had his fantasy sex scene? Pretty. Besides that, I never thought I'd see Vanessa Redgrave smoke pot with her real-life daughter Joely Richardson and watch a gorilla get plastic surgery in the same hour. At least there was no Carver this week. Christian said, "For the first time in weeks, I forgot all about the Carver," but you know he's not telling the truth. Last week he told Sean the Carver raped him, but he wouldn't admit it to Kit, so you know there will be repercussions. But back to this week.
